How to sharpen bypass tools with a Darlac tool sharpener

  • As the name suggests, the blade bypasses the fixed section and only the outside of the blade should be sharpened.
  • Determine the original angle of grinding and imitate this angle as closely as possible.
  • Using the whole abrasive area, move in a circular motion along the blade and back.
  • Place the sharpener flat on the back of the blade and stroke only once, keeping the sharpener flat. This will remove any burr caused by sharpening.

How to sharpen anvil tools with a Darlac tool sharpener

Anvil tools have a blade which cuts onto an anvil and should be sharpened on both sides in a circular motion along the blade and back using the whole abrasive area.

How to sharpen pocket knives and small knives with a Darlac tool sharpener

  • Establish how the blade has been ground, as kitchen knives in particular can be ground on one side only (for left or right handed use), although the majority are ground on both sides.
  • For a knife ground on one side, follow the above instructions for sharpening bypass tools on one side.
  • For a knife ground on both sides, determine the original angle of grinding and imitate this angle as closely as possible, then sharpen on both sides in a circular motion along the blade and back using the whole abrasive area.

How to sharpen scissors with a Darlac Fine Grade Diamond Sharpener

Shears are ground only on the outside of the blades. You must never sharpen the inside (flat side) of the blades. Follow the above instructions for sharpening bypass tools on both sides to sharpen garden shears.
